Young Guru Says Jay-Z Is 4 Songs Deep Into Next Solo Album

March 13, 2012 · Posted in news · 2 Comments

Continuing his talk with Complex, Young Guru reveals 15 things you didn’t know about Jay-Z, all of which are very interesting. I recommend you check the article out. Apparently, Jay religiously watches YouTube freestyles, and L.A. Reid forced him to rush Kingdom Come. Anyways, Guru also revealed that Jigga is already 4 songs deep into his next album, but work has stopped since the birth of B.I.C.

There are maybe four songs so far and most of them are spill over. I don’t wanna say spill-over like they’re throw-aways from Watch The Throne. It’s an incredible beat coming on and Jay being like, ‘No that’s for my album. Hold that one, it’s for me.’ So the ones that were made so far, the beats were made during the Watch The Throne time.

“Now we’re adding on to it, but we haven’t gone back in. We had all this touring stuff. It was the end of the year and we were doing shows. Then the baby came. We literally went in to do the song for Blue Ivy and he hasn’t been back since. He’s definitely enjoying daddy mode right now.”

Yelawolf Breaks Down Radioactive

November 26, 2011 · Posted in interview · 6 Comments

Yelawolf sat down with Complex and broke down all of the tracks on his Shady Records debut.  Below Yelawolf explains Throw It Up (Ft. Gangsta Boo & Eminem). Radioactive now on iTunes.

Yelawolf: “Will Power gave me that beat in full as an eight-bar loop. I took the beat, I tracked it out, and I made that arrangement so the hook would be over the pianos.

“I told Gangsta Boo, who I had called out for a session, ‘This is the record.’ When the hook came up she was like, ‘What the fuck? There’s no drums. It just loses its bop.’ She actually recorded the hook over the drum loop. Then I just arranged the music up under it.

“The whole point was to create a juxtaposition with her and I. I wanted the music to be pretty, but I wanted it to be darker on the verses. I wanted her to come crazy hard because the music’s got a beautiful melody. After we recorded it, I knew it was another super-banger.

J. Cole’s Complex Cover Story About His Come-Up

September 26, 2011 · Posted in Music, reviews · 1 Comment

On the eve of “Cole World: The Sideline Story” release date, Complex.com got their in-house writer, Damien Scott, (who was also Jermaine’s college friend & roommate) to talk about Cole’s struggles . The article talks about how the stardom of J. Cole came about in a dorm room in St. John’s University in Queens to being the first artist signed to Roc-Nation. It’s a great article, I recommend J. Cole fans to read it.
