Swizz Beatz Was Never The CEO Of MegaUpload?

January 20, 2012 · Posted in news · 2 Comments

The last few days have been cray for the internet. On Wednesday, we found out through the NYPost that Swizz Beatz was the CEO of MegaUpload. At the same time websites all over blacked out in protest of the now defunct SOPA/PIPA. A day after that, MegaUpload was shut down by the FBI. Today, MegaUpload’s lawyers tell VentureBeat that Swizz Beatz was never the CEO of the company, and that he only played a minor role in the company. They say Swizz was negotiating to become the CEO, but he never actually became the CEO. Which lines up, because Swizz Beatz was not mentioned anywhere in the 72 page indictment by the FBI. But yesterday Swizz’ publicist confirmed to BetaBeat that Swizz Beatz was in fact the CEO of the company. So I guess we’re back to where we started. Is Swizz Beatz really the CEO of MegaUpload.com? Stay tuned, as this story keeps getting more interesting by the day.

Government Shuts Down Swizz Beatz’ Megaupload

January 19, 2012 · Posted in news · 9 Comments

Yesterday we reported that Swizz Beatz, the CEO of Megaupload was in a legal battle with Universal Music Group. Today it seems that Swizz has lost that battle, because the federal government has shut down the popular file sharing website, which was at one point the 13th most popular site in the world. The feds accuse Megaupload of costing copyright holders more than $500 million in lost revenue. Damn, that jungle is now useless. Time to delete it off the iPod.

News: Swizz Beatz The CEO Of Megaupload!

January 18, 2012 · Posted in news · 4 Comments

Remember how bizarre that Megaupload song/video was? We have now learned that the man behind all this is none other that Swizz Beatz. That’s right. The New York Post is calling Swizz Beatz the CEO of Megaupload. The story is that Swizz got Diddy, Kanye West, and Will.i.am in trouble with their label after they supported Megaupload in the bizarre commercial I just spoke about. Universal Music Group issued YouTube a “take down notice” claiming that the artists’ performances were unauthorized. Swizz and Megaupload then fired back with a lawsuit. A rep for the company tells the NY Post that, “We have never received any word that any artist has [individually] filed a take-down . . . [we have] legally binding agreements with the performers that appear in the video . . . They promised that they had the rights to enter into that agreement and it’s not interfering with any third-party rights.”

The Megaupload Song (Ft. Will.i.am, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Chris Brown, Diddy & More)

December 10, 2011 · Posted in commercial, Videos · 3 Comments

The most bizarre video of the year award goes to…(drum roll)..The Megaupload song!

While the RIAA fights these “rogue” sites, big name artists such as Will.i.am, Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Game, and Lil Jon participate in a jingle endorsing the popular file sharing site. I guess Megaupload is trying to prove to the RIAA that artists in fact love their site. But the video is definitely a head scratcher.
