You’re Killin’ Me: Soulja Boy Part 2
Congratulations Soulja Boy! You’re the first person to ever get two YKM’s. Really though? How is that possible? Do you try to screw up on purpose? The one time you try to deliver a concrete message in your music, it turns out horrible. You said, “F**k the FBI and the army troops fighting for what? Be your own man”. You’re killin’ me. The apology you later released didn’t help the situation either. For the second time, Soulja Boy you’re killin’ me.
I am all for criticizing government. No government will ever be perfect. Winston Churchill once said, “It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried”. No government is flawless, and the day citizens are blinded by patriotism is the day the government will stop serving its people. So no matter how radical a thought may seem, there is always some truth to it. Freedom of speech is based off this idea. Nothing wrong with criticizing the actions of your government. You always have to keep them on their toes.
The problem is that Soulja Boy, wasn’t criticizing. He was being disrespectful. “F*ck the FBI, and the army troops fighting for what? Be your own man”. Boy these MEN are out here risking their life everyday, because we don’t want another 9/11. If you really wanted to criticize the FBI you could talk about the use of “enhanced interrogation techniques”, or the military for Abu Ghraib. That’s a valid argument, unlike this crap. But it’s probably too deep of a subject for you. Besides, 99.9% of soldiers don’t join the military to blow people’s heads off. They do it to protect us. You can’t let a a couple of bad apples spoil the bunch. Soulja Boy, you’re killin’ me.
Then came your apology letter. We all know your publicist probably wrote that. The “homeboys” he/she inserted in the letter looks so fake. We all know you don’t write like that either. In that same apology you “wrote” you also talk about helping troubled youth, but in that same song you rap about, “shooting up the funeral, aint nobody even scared….got the young boys with me, and they’re shooting for your head”.
Take your craft seriously bro. Think about what you say, that way you don’t have to go through the trouble of apologizing. But I don’t know how that line ever sounded good in your head.
Soulja Boy, you’re killin’ me.
