You’re Killin’ Me: Heavy D Mourners

November 18, 2011 · Posted in you're killin me · 9 Comments

First of all, R.I.P. Heavy D. I guess the title is somewhat unfair, let me explain though. I hate it when people talk horrible about a person when they are alive, but completely flip the script when they die. They’re dead, you can’t hurt them anymore. You made their life miserable, now they’re dead, and you praise their accomplishments? Heavy D’s people weren’t bad, but the passing of Heavy D sparked the thought. The fans who are killin’ me are mostly Michael Jackson, and Amy Winehouse “fans”.

When MJ was alive all I heard was jokes, on jokes, on jokes. He’s a child molester, he’s more plastic than flesh, he’s gay. In grade school there was even a remix to the pledge of allegiance that went, “I pledge allegiance to the flag, Michael Jackson is a fag, Pepsi burned him up…” Even Weezy got in on the action. Kids all over the country were doing this. Children and adults alike laughed at Mike. His kids name is Blanket? The masks he made them wear. The girl voice, and of course the Lego jokes. The insults came a dime a dozen. He probably used drugs to forget about all of the negativity. Then MJ dies, and now they all love him. After all those insults. After making his life miserable. You’re killin’ me.

Amy Winehouse was also a victim of the hate. Remember the alcoholic/junkie jokes? The “would you rather” questions? Photographers catching her with the worst facial expressions ever? The jokes on TMZ? Everywhere you went, someone was making fun of Amy. Then like Michael, she died. The media gave her nothing but crap while she was alive. Now that she’s dead everybody praises her work. When she was alive I heard nothing but nasty jokes about her. You’re killin’ me.

Heavy D’s folks weren’t that bad. He was honored at the BET Hip Hop Awards months before his death. D was respected within the community. But I feel like he’s been receiving more love after his death, which is a shame. #HeavyD never trended while he was breathing. I just wish he would’ve seen all of this love and appreciation. You’re not really killin’ me though, you’re….kicking me in the groin.

If you can walk away with anything after reading this, I hope you have more appreciation for everything around you. Not just your favorite entertainers. Sounds cliche but it’s true. Don’t hate so much. If you don’t like someones music, don’t listen to it. Remember me when Lil Wayne dies, everybody is going to LOVE him! Shoot, even Waka will be praised and admired. Appreciate everything you have, show love when people are living, not when they’re 6 feet under. They cant’ hear you under all of that dirt. I’m not talking to all mourners either, hurt dog will holler. R.I.P. Heavy D

AMEN! Quez, you definitely hit the spot. I never understood all the hate for celebrities or people in general and then they die and everyone wants to praise them. I also never understood how an artist’s personal life affects whether you like their music. Sadly, to each their own, I guess.

I completely agree with all of this, except when you said “#HeavyD never trended while he was breathing”. He was trending a little bit when he performed at the BET Awards. And besides the BET Awards, what did he really do since Twitter started to pop off? I mean, it’s hard to trend if you don’t do anything.
