Video: Swishahouse Archives Added To Rice University’s Library

H-Town’s “Screwed & Chopped” movement fell as fast as it rose, but its influence on the hip-hop culture is undeniable and can still be felt in today’s environment. Rice University recognized the movement’s impact on the culture and decided to add Swishahouse to their University’s library archives. Swishahouse, built by Michael ‘5000’ Watts and OG Ron C, came out with rappers like Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Chamillionaire, and Mike Jones in the early 2000’s.

“It’s an incredible honor to have such a prestigious school like Rice University show love like this,” Paul Wall told RapFix. “My album, The People’s Champ, debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top 200, so it’s a big part of the Texas’ hip-hop history. Being a part of the Swishahouse journey is something that is still unbelievable to me. We came from Michael Watts’ childhood home-turned-studio (that we nicknamed the Dust Bowl because it was so dirty); to having myself, Mike Jones, Chamillionaire, and Slim Thug all go platinum. That shows Michael Watts and OG Ron C’s incredible ear for music to discover and develop four platinum acts.”

I thought Thugga never went platinum?
But fuck KHH, C&S music hasn’t fell off. It’s risen given Dj’s like Slim K different styles to c&s the song. (Even though Slim’s always sayin’ “It’s not screwed if Screw didn’t do it”)

    RIP DJ Screw!!!
    RIP Pimp C!!!!!
