In this part of Jay-Z’s Decoded app he describes why he uses Biggie’s rhymes in his song.

“When I say a BIG verse I’m only biggin up my brother”

He say’s he does it to keep Biggie fresh in everyone’s mind. He also added that he can challenge anyone to come up with a better verse than him side by side.
