Video: J. Cole Talks “Miss America” and Album Push Back?
Billboard caught up with J. Cole at the AMA red carpet. Cole spoke about trying to break the norm with the release of “Miss America.” Even though the single won’t get any airplay, Cole is proud of his work, and he hopes that the single changes the conversation in hip-hop. “To me ‘Miss America’ shifts things a little bit. It changes the conversation. It takes it in a more aggressive direction, more raw, more social commentary,” he said.
Jermaine then went on to talk about Born Sinner and its January 28 release date. January 28 being his birthday, he would love to release the album on the 28th, but he admits that the date is a bit “far-fetched” and “ambitious.” Cole says he wants to do certain things promotion-wise and he might need more time to promote the album, so the January 28 date may not stick.
One of the promotional things he would like to do is a short film. He described the short film as “something more expensive than a music video.” Cole will begin shooting in December.
