Stop SOPA and PIPA

January 18, 2012 · Posted in news · 13 Comments

Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) are two US bills that threaten internet freedom.

“Imagine a World Without Free Knowledge” – Wikipedia

Google, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Wikipedia, Mozilla and millions of people all over the world are opposed to the bill which threatens prosperity, online security, and freedom of expression. The inventor of the internet, Tim Berners-Lee is even against the bill.

Wikipedia has also closed down it’s English site today in protest to the bill.

If the bill gets passed it could mean your favourite social network, search engine or rap blog could be shut down. Imagine a world without Google, Facebook and Youtube.

“The internet is the most powerful tool we have for creating a more open and connected world. We can’t let poorly thought out laws get in the way of the internet’s development. Facebook opposes SOPA and PIPA, and we will continue to oppose any laws that will hurt the internet.” – Mark Zuckerberg

You can protest against these two bills by filling out a petition form here.

    its not gonna get passed…it would go against the first amendment. plus obama already said that if congress passed it, that he would veto it

    @peanut, even if Obama vetos it he cant stop it because the majority beats his veto.

    @B,

    True! But it would have to have majority in both the Senate AND the House. The chances of them both coming to a majority vote to approve the bill and override the President’s veto is very, very small.

    Its called the illuminati. It would help all the governments if the internet was shut down. What started the egypt rebellion? Facebook. Other countries saw that so they rebelled also. What fueled occupy the streets? The internet. If the bill passed it would help the government of not letting us see whats going on in the country and it would prevent rebellions against governments.
