PFC Lander Chappell says Lil Wayne’s music saved his life

December 24, 2012 · Posted in interview, news · 1 Comment

Private First Class Lander Chappell is expressing his gratitude for Weezy F. Baby this holiday season not only via twitter, but also with the help of his local news team. In the video above, Chappell explains how Weezy’s music played a big role immediately after losing his leg in an IED accident. While fighting to remain conscious, a fellow soldier offered a few words of advice.

Chappell recalled the soldier instructing him, “Sing your song. Sing your favorite song. Sing it, sing it, sing it.” It was then that he began reciting the lyrics to his favorite song, “Tie My Hands.” During an interview with KOMO News, Chappell said, “It got my mind off it and finally the Medivac came. We were still singing.” Chappell believes that the song, along with the help from his fellow soldier was what helped him remain focused until the Medivac arrived. Doctors were able to save his left leg, while the right leg is now fitted with a prosthesis.
Wayne went to twitter early this morning to send some thanks in return to PFC Lander Chappell.
