News: Meek Mill’s ‘Dreams & Nightmares’ Debuts At #2

November 7, 2012 · Posted in news · 10 Comments

The official Billboard numbers came in this morning and as expected, Taylor Swift took the top spot with 344,000 copies sold. But below Swift at #2, sits hip-hop’s own Meek Mill with his debut album, Dreams & Nightmares. D&M moved 165,000 units in its first week of sales. Projections earlier in the week had Meek in the 170,000-185,000 range.

If you remember, Meek’s album dropped right as tropical storm Sandy ripped through the Eastern seaboard. Throughout the week, many wondered if the storm would affect Meek’s record sales. When asked about Sandy affecting record sales, Meek said he “made a great album and it will sustain itself. Real people do real shit; my fans will buy the album when they are able to.” We’ll see what Dreams & Nightmares does in its second week of sales.

The hurricane didn’t really affect anything… Jay-Z did well during 9/11. Excuses are excuses. Still good numbers during this time though.

It’s techically Meek Mill’s label’s fault just like last week it was Kendrick’s label’s fault for not getting the #1 spot.

If you want a clear shot at the #1 album in the country, don’t drop it the week of or the week after Taylor Swift drops her album.
