News: Kendrick Lamar & Black Hippy Sign To Interscope/Aftermath

March 9, 2012 · Posted in news · 20 Comments

Kendrick Lamar’s forthcoming untitled album will be released in a joint venture through Top Dawg Entertainment, and Aftermath/Interscope. This because according to The Fader, Lamar and his Black Hippy crew have signed a deal with Aftermath/Interscope. All future releases by Ab-Soul, ScHoolboy Q, and Jay Rock will be released jointly by TDE and Aftermath/Interscope. Details will be released at a later time by TDE founder, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith. Congrats to Kendrick, Black Hippy, and everybody at TDE!

    Don’t know if you would agree but I think that’s the best thing to happen to Kendrick. Best label he could have signed to if he was going to sign to anyone.

    G.O.O.D Music or MMG were better choices IMO but well, I’m happy as long as he keeps spitting as he does.

    @Dr. Mouse,
    the fuck are you on? MMG? kendrick is so beyond what maybach is about… g.o.o.d. music is a MAYBE. the only label that fits k.dot’s style is aftermath [hard beats, raw flows, deep lyrics]

    that said. black hippy/slaughterhouse, schoolboy/budden, kendrick/em collabos are much needed.

    I honestly couldn’t see them goin anywhere else. What if Detox is just a Dre produced album with Black Hippy running the show?

    @jim, exactly what I was thinking, they probably have some weird way of making it work

    @ryan,
    Strange Music is a Indie label. Interscope is their major label. Kinda like Wiz is under Rostrum and Atlantic

    Yeah… Eminem and Kendrick on a song would be bad. Eminem fell off after The Eminem Show… It would be a nice collab but Kendrick will murder it. As for the rest of the artists, collabs wouldn’t be bad.
