News: Drake Beats Jay-Z For Most Number 1′s On Billboard

August 11, 2012 · Posted in news · 32 Comments

Drake is now the rapper with the most number 1′s on Billboard’s Hip-Hop/R&B chart. The ascension of “No Lie” to number 1 gave Drake his 10th song on Billboard’s top spot. Jay-Z held the record at 9 with his latest chart topper being “Niggas In Paris.”

Drake beat Jay-Z in just three years, one month and three weeks. “Best I Ever Had” was Drake’s first single to top the Hip-Hop/R&B chart. While Jay’s first song to claim the top spot was Mariah Carey’s “Heartbreaker” in 1999. In total, 12 years and one month passed from Jay’s 1st #1 to his 9th #1. But Jigga still holds the record for most number one (12) albums on Billboard.

@Jason, How ironic i was jus bumping reasonable doubt this week and im here in the westcoast brotha haha Number one albums?? Jayz first album was Reasonable doubt Drakes was…Thank me later lmao haha Jayz is no where near my fave rapper but thats jus sad to compare..

Okay. Jay is an amazing artist. I doubt you was bumping Reasonable doubt though.. Jay-z Is JAY-Z & He is NOT overrated That man is nice with the flows and lyrics but now sometimes people cant ignore the facts & future. Drake is 25 2 albums in, Already passed Jay with the most singles. Now the whole album thing at the rate drake is going he can get atleast 11 number one albums if not Match the 12 number one albums with Jay. & Thats something that can happen.

    MosDef Reply:

@DaBoss, Are you kidding me?? Why wouldn’t i be bumping RD??lol Your a clown. Thats one of my top 25 albums of all times you know why? Cause He said so much shit in that album people probably like you still didn’t catch or understood. From jams like Can I Live to Dead Presidents and Feelin it one of my fave joints from the album. Congrats to Drake let me get that out of the way first of all, but you know what Billboard is? Radio hits lol Your talking about songs that drake mostly singed on and songs that include rhianna and nicky minaj lol Im talking classics and dope songs. Drake can make 100 albums for all care, but if they’re all like thank me later or take care then its a laughable comparison. Have you seen the people that are in the billboard chart? Just cause you cant name 5 songs from reasonable doubt without even looking at the tracklist and talk about what he’s saying in the songs doesn’t mean other people still aren’t bumping brotha..Listen to that whole album thoroughly then come back and tell me something smart instead of trying to convince me what drakes rate for album is haha

    Curt Reply:

@DaBoss, Drake is a glorified r&b/hybrid type of artist. Drake will never be a better technical lyricist as Jay

@MosDef, My fav song off Reasonal Doubt is Regrets. I’m kinda weirded out though bro… Lol I was bangin some Reasonal Doubt last week. On to that new Jon Connor album right now though

I think it’s the singing shit, singing stuff make it more commercial, we cant compare this 2 rappers cuz drake make some n1 by singing like FIND YOUR LOVE, or TAKE CARE, bitches loves that

You may love or hate his music and the persona that goes with it, but you have to acknowledge that this is an impressive achievement.

Not shocked at all Drake beat Jay-z because of the fact that there’s no competition. What’s really today’s competition since R&B is nothing like the R&B in the 90′s with today’s R&B leaders are suppose to be Chris Brown & Trey Songz ? Fuck outta here with them.

Then in hip hop the game is over crowded with mediocre talent instead of rap stars so Drake actually looks decent to most people. He also won over the hearts of woman with his pitiful singing, decent bars, and looks made him run the hip hop/r&b stations.

What most of you fail to notice is that most of Drake no.1s are singles where he is just featured. Without the popularity of artists like Rihanna, he would not be beating Jay Z.

    Fact.
