News: 50 Cent Sued For Sample On “Redrum”
50 Cent is being sued for using an unauthorized sample on “Redrum” from 2009′s War Angel LP, which was a free release. According to TMZ, the lawsuit was filed in New York by Robert Poindexter of The Persuaders. He claims that 50 Cent illegally sampled his song “Love Gonna Pack Up and Walk Out” on “Redrum.”
In the lawsuit Poindexter claims that, “Fifty Cents [sic] has not denied the infringement, but appears to be basing his defense solely on a frivolous and immaterial claim that the illegal version is not being commercially exploited, but is given away for free.”
Although it’s a free track, and 50 Cent isn’t directly profiting from it, Poindexter is still suing for an unspecified amount of statutory damages, plus $600,000 for punitive damages plus interest.
