KillerHipHop Exclusive: Idox Interview
Bonjour son nom est Idox, and he’s an up and coming French artist making moves in the U.S. His versatility on the mic, along with his internet grind is matched by few. Idox is already being compared to 50 Cent, even before having an official project out. They also say he’s the best thing to hit the U.S. since The Statue of Liberty, and Nutella. That’s right…Nutella.
During our interview we talk about learning english, his future plans, writing Pop, and more. Hit the jump.
QuezKHH: You surprised everyone on the site with “Spin This”, tell them who you are.
Idox: I’m Idox, I’m 21 [years old]. Coming from France. I’m trying to do my thing you know. I’m basically working with [Amatsu] from L.A. He made the track “Spin This” for me. We’ve been working on music for about 2 or 3 years now. We’re trying to do something good you know.
KHH: Where did you learn english?
Idox: In school. When I was in Elementary School I started learning english. Then, I started listening to Rap music, and then I thought it would be clever if I used the english that I was learning in music to understand what the rappers were saying. I started learning [more], and I started listening to english music, and movies. I started from there.
KHH: So Hip-Hop basically helped you learn english?
Idox: Yes a lot. When I started learning, I was listening to a lot of Rap music. Then I was reading the lyrics at the same time when I was listening. I was [listening, and] learning that the same time. I was learning from the music.
KHH: What motivated you to start rapping?
Idox: Everything around me, [and] the fact that I was learning something. I thought that it’d be better for me to use what I was learning, and make it something. So I was not wasting my time learning english if I could use it to do something.
KHH: Your internet grind is also very impressive. What’s your secret?
Idox: My secret? I don’t know if I can tell you (laughs). It’s a secret you know. But, I work as hard as I can. I try to do everything on my own, and then if I can’t do something I’m going to reach out to someone to help me.
KHH: A lot of people compare you to 50 Cent. What’s your thoughts on the comparisons?
Idox: Yes a lot of people do compare me to 50. From France to the U.S. to the U.K., and everywhere but it’s flattering. But also, people don’t like to be compared you know. But it’s flattering, because I’m just getting started, and when you compare me to 50, it’s like “woah” you know.
KHH: Are you currently working on a mixtape or album?
Idox: Yes a mixtape. I don’t know when I’m going to put it out yet. I’m doing a lot of songs that I have on my computer right now. I don’t know when I’m going to drop it.
KHH: You’re very good with Pop. What kind of music are you going to be doing for the mixtape?
Idox: Hip-Hop music. I can do a lot of music. A lot of different stuff, but I’m going to focus on Hip-Hop.
KHH: Now “She Crazy” is a really cool track. It’s a hit record in my ears. How’d that track come about, and who produced it?
Idox: The man who produced it is from Team Green music. They’ve produced for 50 Cent, for Lloyd Banks, for a lot of big cats in the game. I reached out. He liked what I do, I liked what he [did], and he really liked the record too.
KHH: Are you going to be shooting a music video for that?
Idox: For “She Crazy” I don’t know. I’ll have to shoot a video for “Spin This” [first]. It’s a record that I did about two years ago. Yea, I don’t know about “She Crazy” yet. But, I’m going to shoot a video soon. I have to drop a video soon, because people are waiting for a video right now.
KHH: What’s the difference between writing Rap, and writing something that’s more Pop, like “She Crazy”?
Idox: I would say it’s the same you know. But it’s easier to write a Pop song like “She Crazy”. You just have to put yourself in a state of mind where you’re in a club or you’re thinking about the party, or the girls.
KHH: If you could meet any artist in the game right now, who would it be?
Idox: I would probably meet Dr. Dre. He’s a legend!
KHH: Anything else you would like to tell the people of KillerHipHop?
Idox: I would like to say that I’m sleepy right now (laughs). I’m [going to] take a great nap, and as soon as I wake up it’s going to be crazy.
