KillerHipHop Exclusive – DUBB Interview
KillerHipHop’s very own HarvzSK had the chance to interview upcoming South Central rapper DUBB. He has not only created a buzz within the States but is also getting recognised overseas from the UK, Germany, Canada and The Netherlands. He has worked with many artists out of LA such as Cali Swag District and was a close friend of Dolla. Many magazines such as XXL magazine have also noticed DUBB’s talent. One thing I can advise you is not to sleep on him. DUBB shows a lot of determination in his music so if you need anything to keep your head up then this is it.
During the interview we discuss the meaning behind his name, how he got into music, his new mixtape ‘The Layover‘ and much more. Check it out after the jump.
HarvzSK – What is the meaning behind the ‘DUBB’?
DUBB – My Name Dubb is an acronym for Determination Unique Beyond Belief. I feel that. The actual breakdown of my name is what sums me up as not only an artist but a person as well.
KKH – How Did You Get Into Music?
DUBB – I began writing seriously and recording at the age of 17. Me and my good childhood friend Lo Pro started together. I was always a fan of music so when I recorded my first demo I decided to continue to do it and see how far I could get with it.
KHH – What did you start doing first: Rapping or Producing?
DUBB – I began rapping first before anything. I do plan on making my own beats one day that is something that I am working on.
KHH – What did you want to do first?
DUBB – To be honest my first love was basketball and I always thought that I was going to play in the NBA. Even though I am from LA I was and still am a Chicago Bulls Fan.
KHH – Was your education colliding with your music career?
DUBB – No not really, I always did what I could in school but overall it wasn’t for me. Even back then I believed that my true calling in life was music. But I do want to take the time to tell all the young kids out there to stay in school and get an education. Remember just because you do well and go to school doesn’t mean you can’t do music. In actuality it helps raise your stock in this industry.
KHH – What do you enjoy most about being a musician?
DUBB – The thing I enjoy the most about being a musician is that I can creatively and openly express myself to the world in a very artistic way. Hip hop is an art form and I have used it as a vehicle to do just that.
KHH – What was it like growing up around LA?
DUBB -Growing up In LA was no different than growing up in any other hood in America. Every city from New York to Atlanta has a ghetto but I never used that as an excuse as to why I can’t become something in life. Growing up in South Central made me the person that I am today so I will always appreciate that experience.
KHH – Can you play any instruments ?
DUBB – No not really.
KHH – Are you going on tour any time soon?
DUBB – Fo sho! I’m actually going on tour in August so be on the lookout for dates.
KHH – Your new mixtape ‘The Layover’ is coming out soon. Do you have a date on it and any features?
DUBB – I am releasing my new tape “The Layover” in July, some of the features that I have on there thus far are Reek Da Villian, JD Era and a few others. I am not a big fan of having a whole bunch of features on my tapes I really just want to give the people me.
KHH – Who do you think is killing the game right now?
DUBB – I think that I am killing the game right now!!!!!
KHH – What can we expect from you in the future?
DUBB – My fans and supporters can expect a lot of timeless music, they can expect for me to continue to work hard, stay active and remain humble. There is a lesson in every blessing I will continue to give y’all that hot music!!
KHH – Finally, have you got any shoutouts to give?
DUBB – I want to give a shout out to Killer Hip Hop.com, all of their staff and affiliates up there. I want give an extra huge shout out to the whole UK, My DJ Looney, My Management, My Team and of course all of my fans worldwide I do this for y’all!.
