Drake Apologizes For Not Having Phonte & 9th Wonder On ‘Take Care’

November 10, 2011 · Posted in behind the scenes, interview, Music · 7 Comments

Before having an interview with Village Voice, Drake always credited The Little Brothers a.k.a Phonte & 9th Wonder as his musical inspiration in his career. But as the Take Care album was done & finished it seemed like Mr. Graham left out these two, as he promised. This led Phonte to put Drizzy on the spot.

In the interview Drake apologetically explained:

You’ve talked a lot about your admiration for Phonte. How come another collaboration with him still hasn’t happened?

With me and Tay, I kinda dropped the ball on a feature he needed me to do, just being 100% honest. I really wanted to do a record with him, and we actually did do a record for my album, and then something happened with the producer and the beat, and it started getting funny so I had to scrap the record. And then he was like, “Well, can you do this feature for me,” and at the time I was trying to find my sound and trying to figure out what this album was going to be about, and I kind of let it slip through the cracks. That was my fault, and I do apologize to Phonte for that. But I still want to make it happen; I talked to 9th Wonder about trying to make it happen, we’ll get it eventually. He knows he’s one of the biggest influences on my career.

Always have to take rumors with a grain of salt, but I was reading about how Drake had actually recorded a bunch of stuff with Phonte and Birdman wasn’t letting him put it out because that’s “not where the moneys at”. That’s a rumor I will absolutely believe.

Either way.. Take Care > So Far Gone and it’s not even close. Not album of the year or anything but it’s enjoyable.

@HoodRiddance, You must be a comedian or somethin. So Far Gone is way better than Take Care. Drizzy’s only classic hit is on that mixtape, “Best I Ever Had”.

Also HoustonAtlantaVegas, The Calm, Fear, Unstoppable, & Successful could be any of these tracks on Take Care.

It’s not one of his best but, it’s his biggest hit record that was nominated & almost won a Grammy.@Wam,

Because you know when an artist will “almost” win a Grammy…
