1 Verse, 1 Hearse #14, Hopsin – Nocturnal Rainbows

January 14, 2012 · Posted in 1 verse 1 hearse · 25 Comments

Call him the new Eminem or the old Shady, I don’t care. All I know is that this dude is raw! A few weeks back I had the opportunity, the privilege, and the honor of speaking to him. The outcome of our talk is a raw interview (coming very soon), and a very special 1 Verse, 1 Hearse. A special 1V1H hearsed by Hopsin himself. One of Hip-Hop’s brightest young stars helped me out by hearsing the chorus on “Nocturnal Rainbows”. Take it away Hopsin.

[Chorus]
When the sun’s down
Nocturnal rainbows soar in the air so high
It may seem so that I can’t see
But the darkness provides the light for me
I don’t wanna be lonely
And the moon is my only homie
If there’s a higher power then show me
Instead of nocturnal rainbows

[Verse 3]
We’re all smart, and we know what’s bad and good for us
But yet when you got offered some marijuana, you took a puff
Your brain is a fucking powerhouse, but what, That wasn’t good enough?
It’s people like you who talk that should’ve, could’ve, would’ve stuff
You probably threw your life away ’cause you would rather get high
With no license or car, so you bum rides to get by
Saying “I should’ve did this” or “I shouldn’t have hung with this guy”
“I’m broke as fuck, my rent’s high. Ah, I should’ve realized”
I ain’t being cruel, these situations that I address
Im more than likely could be someone you admire, yes
But it’s because the blood, sweat and all the time that I invest
We play the same game, difference is you never try your best
You don’t have a skill, you set yourself up for a higher mess
I work around the clock, you slack off with lots of time to rest
Keep bullshittin’ till your life is gone
Cause living’s naturally hell, you have to work to put a smile on

Hopsin breaks down “Nocturnal Rainbows” chorus.

Nocturnal Rainbows is the true colors that are shown during nighttime. So people, when the lights are on them, when the spotlight is on them, they pretend that they’re something else… and be frauds pretty much. Like if you put them on the spot they’ll pretend like, “oh yea everything is all good, everything is all this and that”. Then when the light is not on them they show their true colors. Which are nocturnal rainbows. A lot of people are frauds. They pretend to be somebody in public but behind the scenes they’re something completely different. Or they’re keeping secrets from everybody and shit. Not telling everybody what the real deal is. That’s basically what I’m talking about. The only thing that I know that is real is just the moon. Meaning I can’t trust people that’s why I say the moon is my only homie. It’s just that I don’t know who to believe. With the moon it’s the only thing I have to look at when I’m feeling down and stuff.

Now that we know what’s up with the hook we can move down to the 3rd verse full of tough love, and conscious lyrics. I kind of said screw comparisons up top, but yea. I haven’t heard of a rapper like this since you know who. His name is, his name is, his name is…slic..yea yea you know who. But what makes Hopsin even more special in this era is that he’s Hopsin. He’s a real guy, that made it out of special-ed. He’s a normal guy. When he raps in his songs people connect with what he’s rapping about. So anyhow, on to the 3rd verse.

Hopsin begins by pointing out our ironic stupidity. Yes, we’re the most capable beings on this planet, but we can’t keep ourselves from self destructing? The beginning is just so powerful when he says that, “when you got offered some marijuana you took a puff, your brain is a f*cking power house, that what wasn’t good enough?” Calm down now. I know that there’s a lot of you out there that claim that marijuana can cure cancer, glaucoma, and all that good stuff. I’m not judging, but the general consensus in science is that marijuana is detrimental to human health. The legality of it is a different debate. Same thing with alcohol. I found it somewhat hilarious when Hopsin spoke on the guy who took a puff, and now he’s crying because he shouldn’t have hung with this guy, and his rent is too high, ahh! I see that all over Marcus. Good thing that my acquaintances don’t read my blogs huh? Bottom line is that Hopsin is telling us that the world is in our hands.

While we’re caught gazing at stars, or at false illusions such as a nocturnal rainbow, the world keeps moving, and we’re stuck gazing up at the sky. Stop chasing false illusions. Stop trying to smoke like Wiz. Unfortunately you’re not a millionaire, and unlike Wiz you have to wake up in the morning and go to work. You’re not Tyler, The Creator either. You can’t go out vandalizing property, because you can’t pay for the damages. When you think about it Tyler actually gets paid to destroy stuff. It’s the opposite for you. Do you think that these rappers act like this when the spotlight is off them? Call ’em nocturnal rainbows. So add Hopsin to that list of rappers that’s opening the eyes of this generation. Put him right alongside Kendrick and J. Cole.

BIG BIG BIG thanks to Hopsin for explaining the hook above. Fan voting is over, but make sure to let XXL Magazine know that you want Hopsin on the 2012 Freshmen Class. Buy Hopsin’s Raw here.

I feel like your making the site way to much about your personal opinion, just give us the raw facts man. Your turning me off to killerhiphop and I’m sure you don’t need me but I’m just saying

Hey Tsssssk. Thanks for your comment. This post is a review and analysis of one song. All reviews are opinion based and we encourage people to give their own opinion regardless of whether you agree with this post or not. This is why the comments are always open. In our experience people love reading reviews and the 1 Verse 1 Hearses gives them new insights into the song and makes them think about it from a different perspective.

Also, in this case we are providing RAW FACTS about the song straight from the horses mouth by including the explanation from Hopsin himself. We can’t get more real than that! We love to hear your opinions and thanks for your feedback.

    Peace.

“I’m not judging, but the general consensus in science is that marijuana is detrimental to human health.

Wrong. Latest studies have demonstrated marijuana smoked less than 20 times per month is not harmful to health and may in fact improve lung compliance due to the fact smokers often take large breaths and hold. Source: AMA

  12. Quez on January 15th, 2012 6:52 am

Well, someonesmart the JAMA concluded that “Occasional and low cumulative marijuana use was not associated with adverse effects on pulmonary function. ” It never said anything about improving “lung compliance”?! But care to provide some links to back up your claims. Mostly they were trying to see if it was more detrimental than tobacco. Plus, they only used a pool of 5115 men and women in 4 US cities which is fairly small.

The Mayo Clinic says that there are, “links between marijuana and other mental health conditions. Marijuana use may trigger schizophrenia or detachment from reality (psychosis) in certain people.”

Once again someonesmart, the general consensus in science is that marijuana is detrimental to human health.
