1 Verse, 1 He…Common – Stay Schemin’ Remix

January 13, 2012 · Posted in 1 verse 1 hearse, beef · 78 Comments

What you thought I was giving Common’s verse on “Stay Schemin” a hearse? I mean he did kill it, correct? He got Drizzy good, and most importantly he was straight up about it. No subliminal crap! That’s the ingredients for a good 1V1H, except for the fact that it’s a Drake diss. I’m not being a Drake stan either. Just ask yourself about how this beef started. Was it because of Serena Williams? Drake being soft? Or Common trying to sell albums? They’re all dumb reasons. That’s were Common loses his 1V1H points. Why is he dissing Drake?!

Why is it just now that Common chooses to make his opinions about Drake public? Drizzy has been rapping/singing for a while now. Is Com’ just trying to sell records? I don’t get it either. Everybody criticizes Drake for being soft, then when he tries to act hard, you say he’s hard. Make up your mind people. You criticize when he’s soft, and when he acts hard? Freakin’ haters.

My motto is: Chicago, bitch
Everybody know you sweet, what the problem is
Don’t play dumb, I’m the one that acknowledged it
Son of a bitch, I imagine what your father is
She said, “How you make your opponent, the rapper of the moment?”
His style, he don’t own it
Acting all hard when he hardly like that
You gon’ mess around and make me catch a body like that, ooooh
Don’t do it
‘Cause every song you make Joe is really hoe music
I heard you said you wasn’t a bitch because you sing
You a bitch because you cling like a bitch that’s eighteen
Can’t say my name but rap about a nigga’s wife
You so black and white, tryna to live a nigga’s life
I’m taking too long with this amateur guy
You ain’t wet nobody, nigga, you Canada dry

But let’s talk about this Common verse on “Stay Schemin'”. His verse is a direct response to Drake’s verse on “Stay Schemin'”. Hence Common rapping over the same beat, and replying to Drake’s, “Don’t be ducking like you never wanted nothing” with his own, “Don’t play dumb, I’m the one that acknowledged it”. Meaning that Common was the one who acknowledged the beef in the first place, and that he isn’t ducking anybody, because he’s obviously here replying. Common really put Aubs in his place with that line. That wasn’t all though. No sir! Common then responds to, “Shawty wanna tell me secrets ’bout a rap nigga I tell a bitch its more attractive when you hold it down” with, “Can’t say my name but rap about a niggas wife”. Whether they’re talking about Serena Williams is up to you, but I think the odds are 55/45, since neither side has directly confirmed it. Anyways, we can infer that Serena Williams wanted to tell Drake about Common’s secrets, but Drizzy refused to hear it and just told her to hold it down. Common simply says that Drake isn’t man enough to say his name, yet he talks about his wife. Woah. Now if I’m hearing it right Common just called Serena Williams his wife? Well, no wonder he’s furious. I love this back and forth though; it isn’t like most diss tracks where one dude mostly insults the other guy by calling him names. He actually addresses Drake’s lines. Common saves the best for last with, “You ain’t wet nobody, nigga, you Canada Dry”. Days later, I’m still laughin’. Translated, Common is saying that Drake has never physically hurt anyone. Not only is he dry, he’s also pop soda. As if that line wasn’t enough he exits with a Destiny Child sample telling Drizzy to, “Say my name, say my name”. Once again, exposing Drake for being subliminal and never calling him out by name. At the same time it’s a parody on Drake’s frequent use of singing in his songs. How can you say Common didn’t kill Drake with this verse?

Still, at the end of the day this is a lame DRY beef, because nobody even knows what they’re really fighting about. Common is also losing a lot of respect for all this negativity. We’re used to Common being more positive in this music. Something must be bothering him a whole lot. Although Common burned Drake, he’s the only one losing here. Drake surely isn’t losing any fans. People criticizing right now have always criticized, and aren’t saying anything besides “Drake is soft blah blah blah”. Plus, Fox News is never letting Common go back to the White House after calling someone a “Hoe ass nigga”. Common’s “Stay Schemin'” remix was funny though. I’m still laughin’ about this Canada Dry line. As far as Drake responding to this diss? Keep dreaming, stop believing.

Written by @QuezKHH, like me on facebook.

PS. Do you know how they got the name for Canada Dry? Beacause it’s from Canada of course, and it’s dry, as in NOT sweet in comparison to other drinks. So Common is actually saying that Drake isn’t sweet, which contradicts “Sweet”. FAIL or what? That’s also why Com’ didn’t get the entire 1V1H. Either way, it’s still funny.

  5. MosDef on January 13th, 2012 7:51 pm

This was jus lame. Btw the u can talk about someones wife he’s talking about how Drake called kobes wife a bitch. Btw this ain’t even a beef its a battle stop making it seem like hiphop doesn’t need a rap battle. Who cares who it is. Btw common ain’t loosing any respect. Talking about “I’m no stan either” yet the whole 1verse1herse you display it. Fail khh. Should have done an actual 1v1h. Instead of wasting this. NaS had an amazing verse. Let the people knw about NaS, stop being so mainstreams.

  8. Omg Lol on January 13th, 2012 8:03 pm

Quez has a fetish for Drake dick… LOL. Drake is fake.. He isn’t hard. If he wants to sing, let him do R&B.. If he wants to rap, let him rap.. But don’t just let the guy act tough when he isn’t, let him be fucking real. I thought you’d know better Quez. Fail on KHH this time around.. Give Nas or ScHoolboy Q a verse.. That would have been better.

  11. insanezain on January 13th, 2012 8:16 pm

I think Common started it with Sweet mainly because hes putting out an album filled with songs HE thinks are good and not just songs that are media friendly… which he said in an interview hes got a problem with. Let’s be honest, we all knew what Take Care was gonna sound like before Drake even released it because hes a commercial rapper. I’m from Toronto, and I think Drake is a really great rapper in his own right, but when its time for albums its all about the money for him (whos to say hes wrong?)…Common just called that out because I can’t imagine ANY old school rapper being OK with a borderline R&B Album being considered one of the “best rap albums of the year”. Lets be honest, it’s not out of nowhere. Good to see Drake finally starting to get called out, I’ve never seen a guy act as tough as he does while doing such soft shit. He caters his music to female emotions (at least in terms of social gender roles) and this would never have been ok in rap 10-15 years ago. He also treats every music video like an oscar nomination, he was allowed to be fake for too long without being called out and now its time for him to earn his stripes the real way.

  12. Chuck on January 13th, 2012 9:11 pm

could not addressed that any better all these drake fans really consider take care as a rap album when he’ll only spit 2 bars sing rest of the shit…,…smfh

  13. drill on January 13th, 2012 10:28 pm

@Chuck, on take care drake did had 12 songs in which he did not sing on. you ignorant music snob.

  14. B Rivers on January 13th, 2012 11:44 pm

@drill, the point he was making is that the album was not a rap album yet it was rated as one…when anyone who has ears..that heard it know it was more R&B than anything else

  15. peanut on January 17th, 2012 6:39 pm

@B Rivers, if he didn’t sing on 12 songs in which he rapped on, then its a rap album. thats more then 50% of the album

and to ur comment above “this would not be ok in rap 10-15 years ago”…u might be right about that but this is 2012. if u don’t like what rap is now then stop listening to rap, or listen to a different genre. stop living in the past

  16. insanezain on January 13th, 2012 8:20 pm

I’d like to add that I actually like Take Care…but its not a RAP album. That’s what I’m trying to say. He’s acting like hes something hes never proven he is. He even says a line in Take Care about how he wonders if old school rappers could even handle rap now, and calling himself the “greatest” (with a Muhammad Ali quote that I’m sure enough of his fans have no idea about)…he just gases himself up and everyones riding his dick so they go with it. I’m glad he got called out. I’m also confident that, when he wants to be, he can be a solid rapper…just he will never match up with real hip-hop artists (Kendrick Lamar bodied him on his own album with one verse).

  17. Mark on January 13th, 2012 11:41 pm

I feel you on “Kndrick Lamar bodied him on his own album with one verse”,
I personally thinkSection.80 should have been Album of the Year, Just pure Hip Hop plus it wasn’t over populated with features..

  18. G20 on January 13th, 2012 8:27 pm

Drake won’t reply because he doesn’t need to, he’s big in the game right now, but if he did it would be interesting to hear him go hard like back in the so far gone days

  19. e on January 13th, 2012 8:29 pm

So many haters on drake haha…common just trying to come back and sell..

  20. MosDef on January 13th, 2012 8:34 pm

@e, common is an established rapper. Considered a legend. Jay z considers him lyrically better than himself as he mentions in one of his songs. What does he need to make a comeback from??lol he’s been longer in the game than wat I can tell your existence in this world.

  21. drill on January 13th, 2012 10:32 pm

@MosDef, so what if someone is old does not make him a untouchable. so what if he’s a legend. you know common is a hypocrite about this whole thing, becuase common is respected for being brave enough to be different and positive and go somewhere else with his music. isnt that what drake is doing right now? common has 2 r&b albums. and common is soft, stop saying that he’s hard becuase common isnt even like.

  22. MosDef on January 13th, 2012 10:59 pm

@drill, missed the point of the comment to talk about nothing. 1. Didn’t say he’s untouchable. I was stating he doesn’t need to make a combavk if he’s been in the game for so long. That’s something no one can take away from him. 2 r&b albums? Name those albums? Be? Finding forever? Like water for chocolate? Let me borrow a dollar? Universal mind control? Electric circus? Your lame. Common doesn’t have an r&b album. If you read my comment like a smart person would have I never said common was “hard” and I never considered him hard. Hes a Guy that supports the culture. I can tell you’ve never heard any.of his albums by your rant. Good try tho. Next.

  23. drill on January 13th, 2012 11:32 pm

@drill, i assumed you were inclined to say that common is untouchable like the rest of these bandwagon fake common fans. and ive listenend to common’s old stuff. “one day it will all make sense” to “be”. common has his own r&b moments and he also does have questionable albums like electric circus, umc, and to me finding forever was questionable on terms of RAP. and its not about making so much of a comeback but to just be real. common is a positive guy for the culture but with this little situation that he has with drake is just going to make him look bad because itl make him look like a hypocrtie. he’s best known for being consious musically and for being different as a person for his music. he brave enough to experiment so why is he going at drake like he’s the main problem since thats what drake is doing with his sound, hes different. he owns his own style.

  24. MosDef on January 13th, 2012 11:56 pm

@drill, by no means is common my fave rapper. He doesn’t rap about hard stuff. Can he spit tho? Hell ya. Spits knowledge and like I said supports the culture. Nobody is going.to bring him down from being considered one of the greats. I think people are looking into to much. Like if its a bad thing to battle. I mean common has love for the hiphop culture, I agree Drake is not the only who does that but he called himself out after he thought sweet was for him but that’s another topic. Like I’ve said before. Drakes a good artist. I only pick and choose songs from him. Good for him and his commercial success. But lets keep it real. Drake considers himself one of the greats now but he’s far from that and I think will never be a great. Look who hes sorrounds himself with. Nothing but fake people.

  25. drill on January 14th, 2012 12:54 am

@drill, i think drake was acually referring to luda when he came on stage about the diss track from luda. the line about “say it to my face” then drake came out and said “say it to my muthafucking face”. i don’t think he was aiming specifically at common untill all the interviews came and then common finnaly admits it was drake. but idk, their both pretty low about what their battling about but drake is smart for sending a subliminal because this battle is unnecessary. it came right out of the blue, and common went straight after drake like he planned this out or something. it did take common like a day to respond.

  26. MosDef on January 14th, 2012 7:08 am

@drill, at the end of the day the way I see it. A good battle doesn’t hurt anyone. So why not? I mean it is hiphop right? Jus thought khh just proved they really don’t knw shit. I mean have of the post isn’t even true. Whether your on drakes or common sides I think we all knw who’s dick khh like to jump on. Other than that I feel you on what you saying.

  27. Geez on January 14th, 2012 4:40 pm

    @MosDef,
    Drake dick rider lmao

  28. Random on January 13th, 2012 8:38 pm

Drake’s been acting tough and acting like he’s greatest rapper ever. Drake’s just adding fire to the flame. It’s like a random kid would go to a basketball court, proclaiming he’s the best baller and when he gets challenged for a 1v1, he declines it. Soft.

  29. A on January 13th, 2012 8:39 pm

When common said talking bout a nigga’s wife I think he meant drake’s diss to Vanessa (Kobe wife)

  30. Jovi on January 13th, 2012 9:00 pm

The song “Sweet” wasn’t for Drake. it was meant for the people that sing in their songs, he doesnt have a problem that they do but he just wants to hear more rhymes, thats all. and If people take it the wrong, they fit in the category. like Drake toke it wrong, so that adds Him to the category. Common was never taking shots a Drake, Common even said it that he’s a good artist. Common doesnt need to take shots at anyone to sell an Album.. SMH.. Drake put HIM self in this situation. All Common did was respond to Drake and lets see if Drake Response back (Calling common out).

  31. Mr. A on January 13th, 2012 9:06 pm

    @MosDef, agreed on this. I don’t consider this a proper 1v1h.
And I’ve been a fan of Common ever since I heard “I Used To Love HER” but I definitely think Nas’ Triple Beam Dreams verse deserved it more.
I mean I see where your logic is coming from. But when have mainstream beefs ever been for a certain point which was correct?
Someone thinks a rapper was targeting them so they respond, Canibus disses J. Cole even though he’s Cole’s favorite rapper.
Someone disses eminem cuz they thought he was ghostwriting for someone else

Common is doing his job and putting this soft rapper back into his place. I haven’t heard a rap this hardcore since “The Bitch In Yoo”.
And This is coming from a Drake fan.

  32. MosDef on January 13th, 2012 9:18 pm

@Mr. A, that’s what I’m saying. These guys have the nerve to say “freaking haters” and are pretty much hating on common.lol I don’t like using that word either, everyone uses “hate” when they can’t back there shit up. But I mean this was jus bad. Feel you on that NaS verse tho. He’s been killing features lately. Not to forget he killed the carteriv with one Nasty verse lol

  33. Mr. A on January 13th, 2012 10:14 pm

@MosDef, Definitely. I use the word ‘hater’ a lot though. Yeah he’s been making his comeback, I loved his verse on “It’s a Tower Heist” as well. I’m just waiting for his album and the Lost Tapes 2.

  34. MosDef on January 13th, 2012 10:20 pm

@Mr. A, if your a big Nas fan bro go to realhiphophead.com they have all his lost tapes there. Its like 5 albums. Check it out. Pretty dope. All nas needs for his next album is good production. I feel like that’s all he kinda struggles at.

  35. drill on January 13th, 2012 10:43 pm

@Mr. A, “the bitch in yoo” was not hardcore at all…. just saying. westside connect had guns to back their verse up, common didnt.

  36. Mr. A on January 14th, 2012 6:30 am

@drill, That’s your main argument? They had guns? Wow.
When Ice Cube dissed an entire coast, Common was the first one to step up and respond

  37. Common's daddy on January 13th, 2012 9:13 pm

common is a lil bitch, getchyo ass in the house now!

  38. MRNJ on January 13th, 2012 9:50 pm

  40. buggie on January 14th, 2012 9:52 am

Wat are u tlkn about kid…he gave common his dues he said common killed that verse like 5 times.lol. he jus said common doesnt have a real reason to disa drake. Which is true of u think about it. Hows that ridin?

  41. Vlandi on January 13th, 2012 10:22 pm

He wasnt talking about Serena when he said “a niggas wife” he was talking about how drake mentioned kobes wife bouta get em for 150 m’s and “bitch you wasnt with me shooting in the gym” thats just how I heard it

  42. B.J on January 13th, 2012 10:44 pm

Can someone tell me whats wrong with singing and rapping? Some of yall acting like Drake has never spit some hard rhymes before. We know he can rap so why cant he sing or “cater” to the females? If u can rap and u have a talent for singing then why shouldnt u sing? Most of Take Care may not be hip hop and everyone may not like it but to disregard Drake as a rapper just because he sings too doesnt make sense when u know he can spit. An example is on “Stay Scheming”. Btw Drake doesnt need to release a full out rap album just to prove he aint soft. Singing doesnt make u soft or fake. This Common diss is dope though and it’ll be nice if he responded but he doesnt need to prove anything by responding.

Just Cause Of The Simple Fact He Didnt Hide Behind Subliminals & Made It Clear On What & Who He Was Talking About .. “BUT” In My Opinion Drake Is Just In His Own Lane & The Fame Cauqht Up To Him .. Common “A Leqend” Who’s Already Put In Enouqh Time In The Game & Doesn’t Really Have Anythinq To Prove Is Cominq Out Of His Way To Diss A Niqqa Who’s Makinq It Happen For The Game At This Moment .. This is the same exact thing i said from the beginning . No one had no beef with Drake when So Far Gone or Thank Me Later dropped . All of a sudden hes singing too much ? Drake’s been singing and nothings changed and even if it did , hes not singing for the other artists , hes singing for his fans . I say common’s the one that is truely losing here . For a old man like him , he should be trying to set an example but right now , he’s acting like a little boy in highschool. Either waaay , Drake’s making money and still pulling soooo .

Flow Was Pretty Mediocure But Hip-hop\Rap Originally Came From The Streets Which Is Fine But Common Must Understand It Isn’t The Same Generation He Feed Off Of .. I Like How Drake Says ” Back When If A Niqqa Reached It Was For The Weapon , Now Days Niqqas Reach Just To Sell They Records” Which Is True ! I Personality Think This Is What Drakes Need Cause This Beef Is Gonna Brinq Back That So Far Gone Drake That Wasn’t Really About All The Sinqin .. Mark My Words When I Say Drake Is Gon Stop The Sinqinq For A Few .. Come Back With A Diss That Wows The World & Even Common !!

drake may be too soft and all tht shit tht ppl are saying about him. but he is the one selling more albums than common right now. drake may nt be as sick lyrically like k.dot, eminem or maybe common, but it seems like common is the one who is trying to ride on drake’s fame right now by dissing him and drawing attention. hey, thats just my opinion, take it or leave it.

and when it all boils down… none of it matters. this impacts nothing other than the fact we might now hear some collabos that would have been hot. they both front like theyre tough, they’re not. drake and common both make quality music, drake will continue to sell more no matter who is “better” in your eyes.

but on the real, i’d be pissed if somebody took serena’s ass away from me too ahahah

can someone explain what soft is?? last time i checked music didnt have regulations on how much singin and rapping you can do….did anyone sit down and think that drake is a versatile artist

  73. Mattyice on January 14th, 2012 11:09 pm

@gator, Singing is R&B not rap

  74. Royal Swagness on January 14th, 2012 9:59 pm

KillerHipHop crew is riding Drake like a bull. No matter what Drake does in their eyes he’s the best and can’t do no wrong.

I knew MikeDaSilva was the biggest Drake dick rider for making Take Care the #1 album on this site for 2011.

Now Quez, not you Quez your co-signing Drake over Common too. Giving Common an inch of credit for the beef but giving Drake a mile of advantage.

So a rapper with a lot of years in the game messing with a rookie..Smh
Though I know j.cole and drake are friends I still want to see them go at it lol

I don’t know about yall, but Beef is Beef. I’m actually upset that Drake hasn’t responded or made a song yet with how fast technology is and how we can stream it out so fast..

Let’s keep it real, hiphop IS DYING OR I should say getting BORING!
We haven’t experienced much beef in a long time and I really just want to see RAP BATTLES like the old days, brings more excitement fuck doing it to sell records…Embrace this beef, you rather see Trey Songz VS. Drake or something? King of RnB lol (IF they both rapped i think Trey would kill Drake, my opinion! lol)

Somebody bring Cassidy back to battle rappin or somethin I need another Cass vs Freeway rap battle lol or Kool Moe Dee vs LL

Hard verse, stupid feud. I’m biased, I’m a big Drake fan, but I have love for Common’s shit too. Drake is just doing something different with his music, you don’t need to put a label on that shit and judge it like that. So what if he sings or raps or what, he does it well. Drake is getting so much cash, and so much success right now by doing something different. Not everyone is gonna fuck with it and that’s fine. The reason Drake is big is because he’s different. He’s a middle class, Canadian, Jewish, child star. He’s an easy target because he is different. He’s not a thug, but with his money and power, he still isn’t a guy you’d wanna fuck with. That said, I wanna hear what he has to say about this now.
