Exactly one year after the death of Chris Lighty, close friend Busta Rhymes releases a track named after the late Kris Kross rapper. The song captures a passionate Busta Rhymes rapping about the impact that Lighty had on his life and career. “Chris Lighty” also features vocals from the legendary Bob Marley. A Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliot, 50 Cent, Fat Joe and more came out on stage to pay tribute to Chris Lighty at the 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards.
Chris Lighty’s funeral service was held earlier today at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel in New York. Many hip hop stars came out to pay respect to music industry mogul including Diddy, LL Cool J, Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes, Mary J Blige, 50 Cent, Fat Joe, Maino, Lloyd Banks and more.
It was held at the same place that hosted The Notorious B.I.G and Aaliyah’s memorials. R.I.P Chris Lighty.
This rendition goes out to the late Chris Lighty. A bereaved Joey honors the life and lessons of his mentor in a touching opening verse. The Slaughters follow up on the ballad, making an already emotion-evoking track that much more personal and sentimental.

Sad news has emerged that music industry veteran and manager Chris Lighty has passed away. Sources close to VIBE have confirmed the news.
Chris Lighty was the founder of Violator Management and worked with the likes of Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, 50 Cent, A Tribe Called Quest, LL Cool J, Nas and more.
Condolences go out to his friends and family.
