Rakim – Holy Are You Lyrics and Audio
Rakim – Holy Are You
Rakim is back and this song is a lyrical masterpiece from the God MC. If you want real hip hop this is it.
This song is from Rakim’s new album “The Seventh Seal” which is coming out soon. He probably won’t sell as many albums as Jay-Z but if lyrics sold….(you know the rest).
Rakim puts words together like no one else can. He may be getting old but he’s still got the skills. Read the quality lyrics below:
Rakim – Holy Are You Lyrics
[Chorus]
Holy are you
Holy are you
There is no God but you (ah huh)
There is no God but you
(I need to talk to y’all for a minute)
Praised be the Lord
(And be serious for a minute)
Holy are you
Holy are you
There is no God but you
There is no God but you (Rakim Allah)
G-O-D, the God MC
Yeah
For those who find it hard to believe, and it is
Why they call me the God MC, the lyricist
Trace this down to the roots from Genesis
The world wonder, I’m still standing like pyramids
Design so vivid, every brick it got a story to tell
My rhyme flow different like a hieroglyphic
Mind prolific, infinite, like mathematic
The first language, now add that, and add graphics (Go ‘head)
Then go let the blocks know it’s the gospel
Life’s new manual, so watch close
The new Michaelangelo and Pablo Picasso
Prepared to show you the cosmos and rock flows
Even my lyrical metaphysical
What this’ll do is help you get to your spiritual pinnacle
You find your mind too far-fetched for it to fathom
I bring the darkness to the light, split the atom
It’s like watching the big bang theory emerge
I take titles, bond them to reveal new words
They want a clear view
From the farthest and the darkest corners of the universe
To a corner near you
A pharaoh in ghetto apparel, stay blinged up
Fort Knox display, a modern day King Tut
Wrapped tight, rap like I’ve been preserved in time
Spit the holy water, then touch it and turn it to wine
It’s the God
Holy are you
Holy are you
There is no God but you (I am, I am the Alpha and Omega)
There is no God but you
Praised be the Lord
We were children of the most high, so we fell
From paradise to holy hell
Probably descendants of the Holy Grail
Another part of history they won’t reveal
Times’ll only tell
You waiting for Judgment? It came
In the form of a thug in the game
To create a strong position, there’s blood in my vein
The chemical is identical, we one and the same
With seven letters in all three of my government names
Walk on water? Nah, neither did Jesus
It’s a parable to make followers and readers believers
From Egypt to Budapest, Rakim is the truest left
Understand the Scriptures like the minister Louis F
I told you who God is, you ignored me like most the prophets
Jesus, Solomon, Abraham, Moses and Muhammad
I showed the scholars, we’ll fulfill the broken promise
I spit this truth to predict the future like Nostradamus
Like Revelations, I’m hoping my quotes reveal
The seven spirits of God when I open the seal
Interpret the holy Qu’ran, these flows will guide you
Translate the Torah, and decode the Bible
[lyrics courtesy of Killerhiphop.com]
Warn the elders in the mosques, ma-sons, and the law
The seven churches, the synagogues, it’s the Renaissance
Skin is bronze, like the Messiah
Rakim Allah’s ’bout to reveal a bigger secret than time and the God
Holy are you
Holy are you
There is no God but you (I want to challenge you)
There is no God but you (and soon I will challenge you)
Praised be the Lord (I am, I am the Alpha and Omega)
Rakim Allah The God MC
Peace

Errrrrr, yeah, the lyrics are truly a masterpiece, but I don’t like the flow of the song..
The chorus doesn’t really fit in with the other parts of the song to me,, plus it sounds kind of soft, but the rest is aight.

I know what you mean, I find the beat is also a little bit overbearing. But I can’t wait for the rest of the album.

The track, the lyrics and the entire composition is a MASTERPIECE. To question it is to question your knowledge and understanding of REAL HIP HOP! To call this blasphemous means you weren’t listening and you truly do not know religious history. The man was talking strictly about facts…..THIS WAS GENIUS..prototypical RAKIM!! The Master returns!!
[Reply]
The lyrics are crazy. Rakim goes deep on this track.
Thanks for posting up the lyrics.

Damn.. ur quick. I was just doin’ some idle searching wondering if someone posted the lyrics yet. I’ve found a couple of minor flaws… like the part about ma-sons… the next part goes onto say something about “lodges”. Where ma-son’s meet.
Anyway… RA came thru with this track. People will complain about the beat, but this is raw NY right here. People will complain that this song is blasphemous… and they have they’re right to think so. None can take away though that RA laced this track with enough infomation to make kat’s go back and study their lessons. I’m still in awe by how much science the God dropped.
This latest release will hopefully be on the road to becoming a classic. My only hopes are that RA found a production team that can carry him and his flow. RA’s always been ahead of his time. I won’t bother giving suggestions as to who I think will be the best to stand up to the job, but I will say that I hope he doesn’t leave his fans waiting so long for the next jewel after this one drops.
Peace

Well the first impression I get from this track and the album title is 2pac’s Makaveli concept. Rakim seems to have incorporated that and blended it with his own style. Of course, there is no comparing the 2 since it’s 2 totally different styles, but I can’t help but to be reminded of 2pac’s “The 7 Day Theory” album.
We’ll see how this one turns out.

This song is great! Even though Rakim has had some production issues over the years his lyrics are still the best in the business. His flow is always tight and ahead of the times. He doesn’t have to talk about drugs and cars and homes and all that other BS. He brings the truth.
Also I don’t see this a blasphemous, black folk need to learn their history and stop believing stuff that was forced on their fore fathers by their slave masters!
As always while we sit here waiting for Jesus save us, China and India are becoming super powers, while Africa and a lot of black people in America are being left behind.
Think about it!

this man is genius. the track is on point on a serious tip. i find the beat to be insane, none-the-less, i never worry about production on a rakim track. ’cause he can turn garbage into gold with his flow.
as far as blasphemy?? i’m not a religious person and i’m saying what Ra is doing…he dropin’ science

Been lovin Ra since 89. I was alil put off when he started rockin the Rakim Allah title but hey he’s a 5 percenter right? So continued to listen. He is by far one of the mos eloquent cats in the game. Thought provocing lyrics and a timeless flow. When he said “rap like I’ve been preserved in time” nothing has ever been more true!
However as a Christian, i believe this track is madd blasphamous. There is only One Alpha & Omega. it’s Jesus the Christ. Look, I’m not hatin on Ra honestly I’m a fan, but I just can’t get down with the Theology on this track.
P.S. Jesus did actually walk on water. This is my belief and my opinion and like Ra, I am entitled to both.

How do you know Jesus actually walked on water? You don’t, you just “know” because you were taught he was / got it from the bible.
And yes its your opinion, remember that next time you say “Jesus actually did x” and so on.

…in short, Rakim is an emcee lyricist. No cursing, steady flow and a classic style of rhythm and poetry.

IN ALL HONESTLY I HATE THE SONG…THE LYRICS…AND AS FOR ME BEING AN CHRISTIAN, I AGREE THAT THIS IS TRUELY BLASEPHEMING AGAINST JESUS, AND THOSE WHO AGREE THAT ITS NOT, MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON YOUR SOUL…IF HE CLAIMS TO BE GOD, PLEASE NAME ONE MIRICALE HE DID, OR ONE WAY THAT HE HAS BLESSED YOU IN YOUR LIFE..RAKIM DOES NOT KNOW EVERY ONE BY NAME, DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU, AND DIDNOT CREATE THE WORLD,..BUT THE ONE AND ONLY TRU GOD HOWEVER, KNOWS YOU BY NAME, HAVE PERFORMED MIRICALS, AND BLESS US ON AN DAILY BASIS WHETHER WE KNOW IT OR NOT…AND WHEN U PRAY. U DO NOT THINK OF RAKIM, U THINK OF YOUR TRUE FATHER IN HEAVEN….
P.S.
AND YES JESUS DID WALK ON WATER…

and uhh… name one miracle or blessing, that you can prove, that jesus, or “God” or any god has done. or did you just read/get taught that it actually happened? yeah, i think you did..

grew up on Long Island watchin Ra kick it down at the Firemans arch in Baldwin Long Island.. truly ,, honestly, remarkable and amazing.. The simple fact he can STILL lay down trax with flow and lyrical content like this stand the test of time and are unique even by industry standards.. . Blaspheme? Gawd whatever.. get over yourself.. he’s clearly one of the most gifted spiritual Hip-Hop artists of all time who’ has managed to transcend all the b.s. in the game without selling out a for anyone. Those who knock his flow simply just can’t keep up with the mental gymnastics and knowledge needed to appreciate it.. There are just waaay to many fools out there dropping nonsense same ole same ole.. cars, bling, houses and hoochies.. If thats your take on life, by all means Ra’ just isn’t for ya. Back to school kiddies, 10 years gone but the man is back .. now that is something to be happy about.. He’s touring in my town Nov 12, got my tickets.. can’t wait to see the show..!!
[Reply]
It’s simple! No one does it like Rakim! I’ve heard comparisons for years to Rakim and none of the comparisons stand the test of time! Think about it how many generations of MC’s get compared to RA? This song is a example of his perfection! Some people don’t get it YET! He’s always light years ahead!
Some judge MC’s by units sold. But those who are researching what is being said and understand the references the man is a genius! Here is a small example:
“spit this truth to predict the future like Nostradamus”
Check out casualties of war 1992 release and 911
As far as “TRUELY BLASEPHEMING” I can’t say I take it that way. Some believe God created us in his image and that we are part of God and there for are Gods in a since. But it’s all in how you take it and what you believe.
The song is a masterpeace and it goes over some people’s head!

Try to see that your attitude can be dangerous. And don’t get mad cuss I’m mentioning. You are obviously provoked over this God-issue written about on this site, referring to the lyric. First I just wish to say that anger can lead to missliking and worse, hate. Jesus had other values than that. It’s no wonder there’s injustice and war in the world when people hate over nothing. Like others have written, I can’t imagine Rakim is referring to himself as God. It’s a metaphor and more that indicates that God lives inside Rakim, cuss he has been given, received and accepted God’s love. God is in your heart and vice-versa. If God, (not physical) lives inside you, or another way to put it, God’s love exists inside you, then you would want to aspire to God and God’s good will.
I don’t know Rakim personally, but through his lyrics he accomplishes this to a great deal. I think therefore Rakim must want to, and do identify himself with the love from God. So when this taken to consideration, anyone who is a true, a good beliver can identify themselves with God, and vice-versa. You do remember; God created man in his own image. God has found you, and if you have “found God” you wanna be the best image you can be. In all of your actions. And since man came into being after God, and by God, in one of God’s images there’s nothing wrong with connecting your name with God. Rakim is a performer and a great artist. He creates beauty with what God has given him. If you’re grateful, and respect God for what you’ve been given, it’s a thanks and a way to point out the importance of what God is to you by writing or saying your name with God. As one of God’s creations. He says Rakim Allah. Allah means ( the one and only God ) in arabic. So Rakim’s only saying he “is” because of God. That he belive in God and God’s values and shows his appreciation and how thankful he is because of God by saying (Rakim Allah) since God is thankworthy.

No-one spins lyrics like this, Rakim IS the god MC. No more rapping about drugs, money and gangs, Rakim gets proper deep, this is true rapping, proper hip hop.
Tupac, Nas are legends too, but ask me, have you ever seen lyircs compared to these?
Btw, this isnt blaphsemy, Rakim doesnt say he is god, hes talkin about he being the God MC. And like Kanzey, i think he believes in Jesus as a prophet, not the son of God.
Just because of that he doesnt believe Jesus is the son of God and he doesnt believe that he walked on water means that he will burn in hell?! Do you think ur God to decide whats going to happen to him Unique? Only god decides, not you.

Dont take this literally. It’s not that Rakim is saying that he himself did these things, Rather he is to be reciting scripts from the Quran and Torah, where it is God himself speaking in the first person.
So instead, Rakim is gloryfying god, not promoting himself as God.

This is Beautiful. Got the chills. Almost a spiritual experience.
Rakim is perhaps the rapper, of all time, who is best on putting words together and thereby creating special word-combinations, performed intelligent through his flow. The way he delivers is great, cuss it’s not obvious what he’s going to say next, and lyrics has context with meaning.
Lyrics that activates your brain, brilliant wordplay and punctuality made seem so easy, but it’s impossible to reject the talent, the man and the artist behind this incredible rap. (Rakim Allah)
It’s great to see old cats in the game who has a “big name”, still keeping it strong by coming out, and still promoting real, good hip-hop music for the lovers of hip-hop to listen to. Hip-hop is not dead, and it’s really cool that a legend proves this fact. Hopefully more people open their eyes and ears, and will notice how many great underground hip-hop artists that are out there. Artists that are keeping it real. And most important, preserving the life og hip-hop music in it’s true spirit as a form of art. By being original, creative and innovative. Artists that let hip-hop live, and nourish it with new life and power, keeping it strong and beautiful.
One love – Peace to all.

I do not believe in god, straight atheist. This song may be religious, in a way some people will like, some people will hate, and people like me will disagree with, however, these lyrics are still the best Ive heard in a long time. The lyrics are top notch, and Rkm has a sick flow. Try rappin along with the song..

I actually think the beat is dope, admittedly a bit “racey “but I think that’s why I like it. it has a “Follower the Leader” feel to it. The hook of the chorus, I really like! It’s becasue of the hook that the song transcends typical Hip Hop, almost like his preaching. It’s like He’s the “Allah” of Hip Hop while Jay-Z claims to be the “Jehovah” of Hip Hop. Anyway, I really like it for the entertainment value it provides, it was obviously made track #7 on purpose. As for the blasphemous remarks, “we” remain silent when movies and commercials are blaspheme but the moment an African American artist does it we’re ready to march.
Differently one of his top 5 tracks of all times, ok maybe top 10.

By the way, if you don’t have the album yet get. Rakim fans won’t be disappointed!!!! Definitely better than his other comeback albums!

Rakim seems to actually be mixing a couple of religious believes together; “Islam” and the “5 Percenters”. I say mix because 5 percenters acknowledge Islam as a way of life not a religion, however Rakim sometimes refers to Allah as the creator God. I could be wrong and he could just be a 5 Percenterm but he does seem to pay homage to a much greater creator.
I’ve always admired Rakim, Public Enemy and X-Clan for not separating the music from their believes.

this guy said Jesus didnt walk on water that its just a parable. OK i know what the parables are in the Bible but this is clearly not a parable. He is simply trying to downplay Jesus, thats silly. Read this: That evening Jesus’ disciples went down to the shore to wait for him. 17 But as darkness fell and Jesus still hadn’t come back, they got into the boat and headed across the lake toward Capernaum. 18 Soon a gale swept down upon them, and the sea grew very rough. 19 They had rowed three or four miles when suddenly they saw Jesus walking on the water toward the boat. They were terrified, 20 but he called out to them, “Don’t be afraid. I am here” 21 Then they were eager to let him in the boat, and immediately they arrived at their destination! that doesnt sound like a parable Rakim thinks he is God but his arms are top short to box with God chill out and know your place. I mean we are Gods children, its ok little god, but dont go for the throne of your father in heaven. Bless you all

Proof that the revolution will not be televised! Even NAs’ new album left me feeling high and grimey. These Mc’s, in my mind, are spiritually connected people who can tap into their God selves and spit the current that is flowing thru them and the universe; there for with all the different languages on this planet, they are all spitting the same verse because there is only one truth! If they are real mc’s who have broken open the 7th seal. “music is there without you or me we just manipulate it for better or worse…”D.T.F.H. Regardless of whether one thinks its blasphemous or or just plain silly, one has to recognize that one cannot critisize unless they have done their own homework and try to get on the God’s level of understanding. Using the Basic. Instructions. Before. Leaving. Earth, as the only source of truth is just as archaic as the slaves in the past (and we are no different today). “Jesus was not his real name, that be greek for One who was annointed, Joshua bin Yoseph was his real name, do Xstians know this? so who do you praise? do you know his name? or do you do this in vain, accepting the religion they gave slaves to behave? Aaah shit! im dropping shit like a pigeon! i hope your listenin, smackin babies at their chistenin!..plus to decieve us, commissioned MichealAngelo to paint white pictures of Jesus.” All knowledge of self remains esoteric to each individual, and that’s what most Mc’s (that are not commercial sellouts), are trying to get their listeners to realize in their hearts and minds and manifest in their daily lives. Be your own leader, follow your own heart and ideals and to remember always that the mind which doubts, supresses it beliefs, and the mind which believes supresses its doubt. Other mc’s who have found their InnerG within their energy, like Krs-1 (who im sure lots you young hiphop hedz today dont realise, that Krs means Knowledge Reigns Supreme “…over nearly everybody! call up KRS its guaranteed to rip the party!…”). Other lyricists like Finsta Bundy, Ras kaas and KP, GZA and all the other real mc’s that you know about, are like kungfu masters who understood thru experience and practice of this extremely complex skill, of just loosening the mind, that Knowledge is Power. And knowledge is gained thru practice and research. “Learning has always been about curiosity and never about immitation” Bruce Lee quote. Once you have the knowledge of how to defend yourself, then your knowledge has become powerful. and there aint no knowledge more powerful than knowledge of self, because that leads to god-hood. So its all good to enjoy this music on a superficial level, but watch what you say when you start to diss the man who’s put in work, gongfu (aka Time and Energy) to the message he has chosen to gift upon our deaf blind and dumb asses. (and when i say the man, i mean Rakim and even God itself, because we are all god’s children and wether we commit crimes or do good in life we are simply doing what He would have done. He is living thru us. when there are no more Humans, thatGod that we have shaped in our image will cease to exist. and take on another form, and so will we exist in that new form.) Humans today are the one controlling other humans intellectual levels, not GOD. Humans dont want you to find GOD, they want you to find Jesus, or the prophet. But remember that prophets are the ones who find GOD! then they are just men and women, and they have evil and good in them just like GOD, and they can choose to use their knowledge of GOD in anyway they see fit. Either for freedom from mental bondage, which we are born with no matter what, or for profit. thats why i think Buddah and Jesus both achieved the same thing, but based on their followers who are still alive today, i can see that one leads humans to God-hood and the other leads them to the Pearly Gates. Everyone is free to make their own choice, and we must learn to achieve unity through our divertsity. the revolution will not be televised, music is the weapon of the future and of war and peace, listen to the lyrics that will break the bonds of mental slavery! all you cowards who get scared when you hear something go against Mohamad, the torah, JC or whoever your prophet is, just remember who your relgion’s “JC” is to you; and that for all you know JC could be in hommage of Julius Caesar! the 18th letter said it himself, “you just ignore him” like the other prophets. and look where thats led all those who ignored them. All those who listened, know that you could like Paris Hilton or Eminem and still be a buddhist, or a good Christian. the truth is to accept how little one knows and how little one can trust. think outside the box, but only to find yourself in another, bigger box. make it out the ghetto and find yourself in a bigger more luxurious ghetto. make money and distract your baby brains with nice whips and iced chains, hot sluts and flat screens…Gravediggaz! there is no hope for the physically dead but there is hope for the mentally dead. Ressurrect you minds, is the message i hear in hip hop and most art forms which inspire creativity. Break open the seventh seal, but find it first. See with your 3rd eye but open it first. LIke Ghandi “be the change in the world that you want to see”. All these mc’s ever spit about is what they see in everyday life and “what they see” life as how it could be. Dont ever not do something due to fear. if you fear it, do it. but dont be stupid, be humble, do it for righteousness like the real.
How many of you listen to Mr.Lif, Akrobatik, Jeru the Damaja, PRT, Jekyl and hYde, Black Thouhgt and Phi LIfe Cypher, Dead Prez or The Coup? How many of you’ve heard KRS’s joint Higher Level?
Honestly i realize my tone might sound condescending or whatever, but if your offended man, that means it affects you! Dont get mad because your scared, dont be scared cos you dont understand. Get mad because you DONT understand, then get scared, if you do, by what youve come to overstand.
Immortal technique and organized konfusion. NOn Phixion. fuck it the beats dont turn you on, often times they are meant to errupt something different inside of you, like a piece of strange art on the wall. Its mysterious, unknown, esoteric speaking and teachings and one has to wise the dome and know the ledge. am i wrong?
