Patience Lyrics: Nas & Damian Marley

[Nas Talking - Intro]
Here we are
here we are
Yeah
This one right here is for the people

[Hook] (Sample -MAMADOU & MARIAM, “SABALI”)
Sabali, Sabali, Sabali, yonkontê
Sabali, Sabali, Sabali, kiye
Ni kêra môgô
Sabali, Sabali, Sabali, yonkontê
Sabali, Sabali, Sabali, kagni
Ni kêra môgô

[Nas Talking]
Ay yo D. Lets go all the way on this one.

[Damian Marley - Verse 1]
Some of the smartest dummies
Can’t read the language of Egyptian mummies
An’ a fly go a moon
And can’t find food for the starving tummies
Pay no mind to the youths
Cause it’s not like the future depends on it
But save the animals in the zoo
Cause the chimpanzee dem a make big money
This is how the media pillages
On the TV the picture is
Savages in villages
And the scientist still can’t explain the pyramids, huh
Evangelists making a living on the videos of ribs of the little kids
Stereotyping the image of the images
And this is what the image is
You buy a khaki pants
And all of a sudden you say a Indiana Jones
An’ a thief out gold and thief out the scrolls and even the buried bones
Some of the worst paparazzis I’ve ever seen and I ever known
Put the worst on display so the world can see
And that’s all they will ever show
So the ones in the west
Will never move east
And feel like they could be at home
Dem get tricked by the beast
But a where dem ago flee when the monster is fully grown?
Solomonic linage whe dem still can’t defeat and them coulda never clone
My spiritual DNA that print in my soul and I will forever Own Lord

[Hook]

[Nas talking]
Yeah, Sabali. Thats patience. That’s what the old folks told me…
Discovering the World before this World. A World buried in time.
Uncover with rhymes. It gets no realer.

[Damian Marley: Verse 2]
Huh, we born not knowing, are we born knowing all?
We growing wiser, are we just growing tall?
Can you read thoughts? can you read palms?
Huh, can you predict the future? can you see storms, coming?
The Earth was flat if you went too far you would fall off
Now the Earth is round if the shape change again everybody woulda start laugh
The average man can’t prove of most of the things that he chooses to speak of
And still won’t research and find out the root of the truth that you seek of
Scholars teach in Universities and claim that they’re smart and cunning
Tell them find a cure when we sneeze and that’s when their nose start running
And the rich get stitched up, when we get cut
Man a heal dem broken bones in the bush with the wed mud
Can you read signs? can you read stars?
Can you make peace? can you fight war?
Can you milk cows, even though you drive cars? huh
Can you survive, Against All Odds, Now?

[Hook]

[Nas]
It’s crazy when you feed people the truth you don’t know how they’re gonna react. You’re scared of wrong doers, people that just ignorant, You’re scared of the truth, be patient for now.

[Nas: Verse 3]
Who wrote the Bible? Who wrote the Qur’an?
And was it a lightning storm
That gave birth to the Earth
And then dinosaurs were born? damn
Who made up words? who made up numbers?
And what kind of spell is mankind under?
Everything on the planet we preserve and can it
Microwaved it and try it
No matter what we’ll survive it
What’s hue? what’s man? what’s human?
Anything along the land we consuming
Eatin’, deletin’, ruin
Trying to get paper
Gotta have land, gotta have acres
So I can sit back like Jack Nicholson
Watch n-ggas play the game like the lakers
In a world full of 52 fakers
Gypsies, seances, mystical prayers
You superstitious? throw salt over your shoulders
Make a wish for the day cuz
Like somebody got a doll of me
Stickin’ needles in my arteries
But I can’t feel it
Sometimes it’s like ‘pardon me, but I got a real big spirit’
I’m fearless…. I’m fearless
Don’t you try and grab hold of my soul
It’s like a military soldier since seven years old
I held real dead bodies in my arms
Felt their body turn cold, oh
Why we born in the first place
If this is how we gotta go?
Damn.

This goes to all the wisdom and knowledge seekers of the World. Sabali, Patience, yeah.
[End]

Lyrics courtesy of Distant Relatives. I just added the Nas skits and the sampled hook to make it complete.

This track was food for thought. Let me know what you think?

With out fail…this is a taste of higher knowledge and understanding. This song is food for thought. All that these young men speak of starts and ends with God. I believe in the power and principles of the Almighty, in whose form i was created. I understand that i live in a diabolical world, where every outside force for the most part is dead set against me in every sphere possible, not excluding internally. Obstacles that i face as a young black woman in this world are, principalities, powers, and wickedness in high places. People set in earthen hierarchy assigened to annihilate me and anything that has to do with me mentally, spiritually, physically, emotionally. The only solace that i could have is the fact that on the inside of me is the kingdom of heaven. Every need, every key, every answer is with in me from the power of the Almighty, He has fashioned men and women who are my guides and lights in the Way. I thank God for my Solomonic ancestry…in Spirit and in truth. This is the outward sign of annointing and mantle that has been placed on me by my heavenly Father. all this to say what? I KNOW WHO I AM. Its time to bring the remembrance to those who still sleep..the lost of Ireal…..and the little dogs too! PEACE

I hope and pray for consciousness to arise in the land of the living. This consciouness is key to raise up the Holy One. Then order and all the things that the souls of the People desire will flow, and wholeness will come. Building is important. We cannot just be hearers of the word but doers also. Theres alot of deprogramming that needs to happen. I have children in this world and have a responsibility to teach them. Aside from that, I hope and pray that i can lay the ground work for them to build upon solid rock and understanding later in their lives. The youth are our future, and if they are wasted……

this shit sucks!!!!! this shit ain’t real and it’s not “preaching the truth” shit like this keeps you ignorant by distracting your attention from the real stuff, but you’ve got to be real stupid to say that this song “is preaching the truth” so i guess it doesn’t even mater what you listen to or watch or read you’re still going to be too stupid to understand any of it.

    @Kram,
If what this song preaches isn’t truth, then shed some light upon all of us. What is “the real stuff”. If we’re all likely to be too stupid to understand any of “it” then, explain what you know that makes you smarter than the rest of us. Its your anger that gives you away. It dilutes your intelligence. Consider how complacent you are next time you judge something. After all, its the fact that you dont understand that causes you to judge in the first place. Let that be a lesson to those that read this.

    NaS and Damian M.,
Please keep doing what you’re doing. You’ll change the game. I hope the people you influence change the world. Much respect.
    Sabali.

    2) not all of us descend from that man, because other ‘monkeys’ evolved into ‘men’ at similar times in different places.
    3) sure, they were from the same subspecies but not necessarily ‘related’ in that sense of the word. So no, we are not all related

Amandou Bagayoko and Mariam Doumbia are musicians from Mali. Both of them are blind. Sabali means Patience in Mali language.

I’ve downloaded and listened to “Sabali”. Even tho I didn’t understand a word of it. I loved it because I knew it is a very powerful song.
Now, the very first time I saw this Patience video, I was like, What!? I must listen to dat. And I thought the video was deep with strong meaning until I just read the lyrics.
Thank ü so much Nas and Damian for giving us youth a true hiphop song with something else other than sex, money and drug most of these other so-called musician portray.

“And the rich get stitched up, when we get cut…” This holds a lot of meaning.
