BET 2009 Cypher: Mos Def, Black Thought & Eminem (Lyrics)

November 4, 2009 · Posted in freestyle, lyrics, Performance · 48 Comments

In case you missed it. This is the 2009 BET cypher with Mos Def, Black Thought and Eminem.

Mos Def put in a good verse but Eminem killed it right at the end. He has habit of doing that!

“Used to bomb ya like Saddam, but now that i’m a lil calmer,
Im a f-cking cross between Osama, Dahmer, Obama and Dalai Lama!”

As a treat I did my best with the Eminem lyrics. Check out the Eminem freestyle cypher lyrics below.

Mos Def, Black Thought, Eminem Cypher Lyrics

[Verse 1: Mos Def]
For sinners, saints and scramblers and gamblers
And dirty money handlers, dignitaries and champions, narcotic traffickers
Talented number runners and racketers
Stars of stage, page and cameras, slang swingers and swaggerers
Double barrels and Derringers, automatics and miracles
Europe, Asia and Africa, all the time in America
Atlantic, Ashland, Alblemarle to Albany
Bridge into Baltic, Bedford Ave, Bergen Street
Clinton to Cadman, Church Ave to Clarendon
Road to Central Avenue, Cooper House, Cypress
And live from Bedford-Stuyvesant
The livest high flyingest pilot bombardier from Pyrrhus
Stationed live and direct, Medina mastermind set
Ya can’t lock my set now lock off, cool
Peace to the nation of the Gods and the Earths
And the Sun, Moon and stars, Furthermore born knowledge go hard

[Verse 2: Black Thought]
Remix, rising up out of the flames like a phoenix
Straining to carry the weight of my brain like a genius
Knowing I’m sowing seeds let’s see whose thumb is the greenest
If I said it I mean it and did it because I need it
Eat sleep it and bleed it, write it down and then read it
Asphalt to the cement, your trash talk is deleted
Blastoff, I lay them out like a Tempurpedic
Black Thought, I told you I’mma win eventually
This unsung, underrated, under appreciated
The one them underachievers had underestimated
Finally graduated from something that’s so hated
To one of the most sacred, nobody gonna take it
Face it, I keep doing it well, doing it sans assistance
Is do it yourself, doing it below the radar
We doing it stealth, doing it again
For Illadelph and who else? But check it out
Y’all see him on a job, see my eyes focused where the prize be
I’m like Martin Luther King you like Rodney
The difference is I give it everything inside me
Dear Diary, my fans still swear by me
Even though I’m late night now like here’s Johnny
Swimming with them big whites now is where you’ll find me
Funny how it break right down but never mind me
I’m forever grimy, guess it’s just Philly shining
Rock rolla bi-polar like Phyllis Hyman

[Verse 3: Eminem]
Like a dope fiend opening up a bottle of dopamine
You’re just hoping you don’t get roped for your throat get choked anything
Oh and just think how dope he could be if he smoked anything
Oh, there goes the bell, the sound of the opening ding
I hit you as hard as barbiturates in the ribs with a switch
And stitch you a the same time before you can flinch to it
My dick is so big, if I add another inch to it
You would swear when I raped you that you was actually into it
I’m not a baller but you can bet your fuckin’ bottom dollar
That I remember when I was without a dollar bill in my wallet
Now watch me kill a koala while I maul a chihuahua
Bum a pill off of Paula like let me holler at you mama
It’s like I’m off the bomba when I bring the fuckin’ drama
Used to bomb ya like Saddam but now that I’m a little calmer
I’m a fuckin’ cross between Osama Dahmer Obama and Dalai Lama
So Miley I’m a knight in shining armor
Mail a gift to Taylor Swift’s trailer a picture
Of my genitalia with a note saying bitch I can’t wait to nail ya
Drug paraphernalia beware the werewolf will kill ya
That’s him in the sheep’s clothes, he just shaved his hair off Cecilia

I did my best with these lyrics and I couldn’t find them anywhere else on the net so I need your help to finish these.

Please drop the lyrics and corrections in the comments and I will update the post.

Who do you think came the hardest?

To be honest i think em was good but he wasnt all that… he had some good lines but was way off with the beat (his flow was lacking). I think Black Thought came the hardest on this cypher, his flow was exactly on par with the beat and his lyrics went hard. Many people think Em was the best cuz he is just more known by people and Black is kinda old but ofcourse thats just my opinion. Oh and btw i think u got the last bar wrong…instead of “thats him an his sheets closed, he just shaved his head off Cecilia” its supposed to be “thats him in sheeps clothes, he just shaved his hair of Cecilia” …a wolf diguised as a sheep

    Kenyon Reply:

@Morrison, That’s crazy talk. People like Em cause his was best, Black Thought’s was good but traditional. Em’s rhyme scheme’s and sequencing is nusto, like check this line “Part Manson, part Hannibal, part mechanical – shark – throwin animal parts at Scarlett Johansen”. If you number that sequence it’s 1-2-1-3-1-3-1-3-1-1ish-2.

Black Thought’s cool, but he can’t do that.

Here is Mos Def’s portion, edited from CRASH above.

    For sinners saints and scramblers
And gamblers and dirty money handlers
    Dignitaries and champions
    Narcotic traffickers
    Talented number runners and racketeers
Stars and stage paid and cameras
    Slang swingers and swaggerers
    Double barrels and derringers
    Automatics and miracles
    Europe Asia and Africa
    All the time in America
    Atlantic
    Ashland
    Abelmarle to Albany
    Bridge in the Baltic
    Bedford Ave
    Bergen street
    Clinton to Caton
    Church ave to Claton
Roll into Central avenue Cooper house
    Cyprus and live from Bedford-Stuyvesant
    The livest high-flyingest pilot
    Bombardier from pirates
    Stationed live and direct
    Medina mastermind
Say “ they can’t lock my, set me lock off, good”
Peace to the nation of the gods
and the earths and the sun moon and stars
    Furthermore, pour knowledge
    Go Haaaarddddd

I believe in the middle portion that Mos Def begins to name off streets and avenues in NY and Brooklyn, since that where he’s from. Also, the ‘Medina mastermind’ part is said with an accent, so it’s hard to make out. I think it really depends on how you pronounce it.

I think EM’s is the best cuz a cypher is about freestyling and punchlines. And for the record the line from Em is in sheeps clothes because is references Cecilia Tan, the erotic werewolf novel writer.
Then Black Thought, the bipolar like Phylis Hyman line is killer. If you don’t know who she is you need to research it.
Then it is Mos Def, even though he is one of my favorite lyricists the verse he spit on a song called “Brookly go hard” check it out if you don’t believe me.

    Peace

I do agree with F.A.R. in his/her analysis. Given that ciphers are traditionally intended for free styling, it would be best to rate each emcee based on their ability to spontaneously rhyme, create metaphors etc. However, being that none of them free styled (and I only say this because their delivery seemed premeditated), I’d have to rate them based on the creativity of their punch-lines, metaphors, and cadence. With that said, my ranking is the same as F.A.R.’s
