1 Verse, 1 Hearse #12, Drake – Lord Knows

We’re finally here. Better late than never. Although “Lord Knows” isn’t my personal favorite from the album, it’s definitely the most jaw dropping track on Take Care. For the record, my favorites were “Practice”, “H.Y.F.R.”, and Kendrick’s verse on “Buried Alive”. My god, Kendrick had the best verse on the album! But I know you guys wanted to read about some Drizzy. So Drizzy you will get. I’m not downplaying “Lord Knows” though. Drake showed a lot of emotion, and “pwnded” the haters. So lets go, 1 Verse, 1 Hearse #12, Drizzy Drake, #OVOXO.

It’s your worst nightmare, it’s my first night here
And this girl right here, who knows what she knows?
So I’m going through her phone if she go to the bathroom
And her purse right there, I don’t trust these hoes at all
But that’s just the result of me paying attention
To all these women that think like men with the same intentions
Talking strippers and models that try to gain attention
Even a couple pornstars that I’m ashamed to mention
But Weezy and Stunna are my only role models
Heffer and Jordan are my only role models
That’s why I walk around with all this gold on
And every time I run into these niggas they want no problems
Bottom sixes and chains, and some bracelets and rings
All of the little accents that make me a king
I never hear the disses they try and point out to me
But it’s whatever if somebody wan’ make it a thing
I’m more concerned what niggas thinkin’ about Christmas in August
Do anything to buy gifts for they daughters
Get some shake a brick in the press
And chef it like Mrs. Fields they’re making the cookie stretch
I know it so well, I know the hustle so well
Stunt like I’m workin’ overnighters right by the motel
Drug money, outfit record clean
Spend it all on me and my fuckin’ team
Matchin’ Rollies for real, matchin’ Rovers for real
Places they say they’ve been, we actually going for real
I’m really killin’ shit, fuck all the jiggy rappin’
I’m going trigga happy just to see my niggas happy
Mixtape legend, underground kings
Lookin’ for the right way to do the wrong things
With my new bitch that’s living in Palm Springs
Young ass nigga, lifelong dreams
They take the greats from the past and compare us
I wonder if they’d ever survive in this era
In a time where it’s recreation
To pull all your skeletons out the closet like Halloween decorations
I know of all the things that I hear they be pokin’ fun at
Never the flow though, they know I run that
Fuck you all, I claim that whenever
I change rap forever, the game back together, yup
YM, I remain that forever
In the same place my brother Wayne that forever
I’m a descendent of either Marley or Hendrix
I haven’t figured it out cause my story is far from finished
I’m hearing all of the jokes, I know that they tryna push me
I know that showin’ emotion don’t ever mean I’m a pussy
Know that I don’t make music for niggas who don’t get pussy
So those are the ones I count on to diss me or overlook me
Lord knows, Lord knows, I’m heavy, I got my weight up
Roberson boost your rate up, it’s time that somebody paid up
A lot of niggas came up off of a style that I made up
But if all I hear is me, then who should I be afraid of?
Bought a white Ghost, now shit is gettin’ spooky
Very, very scary, like shit you see in the movies
In this bitch all drinks on the house like Snoopy
That’s why all the real soldiers salute me
Trill nigga, for real

Many people try to define entertainment. They say sobbing on a track isn’t entertainment. They say it isn’t Hip Hop. They’re wrong. First of all, who are you to tell me what entertains me? Some people collect stamps for entertainment. Then they say Drake isn’t Hip-Hop anymore. Ha, just listen to the damn music. Like Hip-Hop always has to be about shooting people, trapping, and acting hard. Who says it can’t be about females? I swear we need some sort of Hip-Hop Merrian-Webster to define things. Well not define, because defining music is somewhat impossible since it’s so opinionated. We need guidelines. But still, Drake is Hip-Hop. If Kreayshawn can manage to get posted on HIP-HOP blogs, then Lord knows Drake is Hip-Hop. Why would anyone even argue that?

Drake replies to the haters when he says he’s, “hearing all of the jokes, I know that they tryna push me/ I know that showin’ emotion don’t ever mean I’m a pussy/ Know that I don’t make music for niggas who don’t get pussy/ So those are the ones I count on to diss me or overlook me”. Wow, Aubrey Drake Graham. He couldn’t be more right. Drake thrives on connecting with people through his music. Most men deal with females right? So there’s really no better way to connect than to talk about girls. Not to sound like a player (I just crush a lot) but if you’re not dealing with girls, like you barely got out of prison. You can’t relate to Drake’s music. So you’re bound to hate. Even if you get turned down, Drake has a song for you. Connecting is nearly impossible. Maybe you don’t want to get caught listening to something “soft” and risk being called a simp? Drake just shuts up the haters after that line. There is no comeback. Burned. Pwned.

The length of this verse also tells me about where Drake’s emotions were when he wrote this verse. The line I just talked about was inevitable. Drake was mad, and had to get things off his chest. He couldn’t stop at two 16’s. Also, when you’re mad you ramble, and we can hear Drake ramble at the beginning. I felt that the 1st set of bars were unnecessary. Drake kicks it into gear when he starts talking about his role models. “Lord Knows” is definitely one of Drake’s most revealing tracks.

People hating on Drake’s lyricism is normal. It happens to everybody. But to hate on him for revealing his emotions? You’re killin’ me. It’s like asking 2Pac to not be socially conscious in his music. That’s what made 2Pac, 2Pac, and emotions make Drake, Drake. Why would he stop? There’s nothing wrong with being “soft” either. Look at where the hardest dudes in Hip-Hop are? Boosie, Max B, and Gucci? All locked up. But hey, after this verse I bet that haters triple check their comments before hating on Drake. Mission accomplished. What’s wrong with wearing gloves anyways? I don’t get that.

    @Charlie Martinez,

Eminem would never collab with Drake.

Worst idea in history, styles are way too different right now.

When it comes to Drake, songs like Best I ever had, The Ride, & Find your love is his style of smooth raps & music for the ladies.

Songs like Headlines, Underground Kingz, & raps tryin to be hard I don’t like about Drake.

People call Drake soft because he’s not gangster but tryin to be gangster & at the same time doin mediocre singing to ladies about love & heartbreak. In addition growing up in a wealthy area & being on Degrassi.

If he does only 2 singing songs per an album with less fake gangsta street talk & rap about different woman & different life scenario topics, then everyone would leave Drake alone.

  20. RS on December 4th, 2011 12:49 am

    @Royal Swagness,

How can you not listen to those tracks? There the only good tracks on the damn album.

I swear 80% of Drake’s fans are his RnB fans.

  23. Royal Swagness on December 4th, 2011 5:36 am

@crownaintsafe, You must be on the OVOXO payroll roll or Drake’s ghost rider or something, if not, getting mad because the truth hurts isn’t going to change anything.

Drake is an alright rapper but his actions & some videos he does is soft.

  24. Royal Swagness on December 4th, 2011 5:42 am

@illadelph_meek mill, You gotta be on the OVOX0 payroll or Drake’s maid ore something to be this mad.

Drake is an alright rapper but his actions & most videos he does are corny.

    Miss Me
    Find Your Love

  25. The Calm on December 4th, 2011 3:11 am

@Royal Swagness, he doesnt try to sound hard in headlines or UGK, they are simply rap songs. Those are the songs he pulls out his witty punchlines and those are some of his greats, drakes diversity is what got him this far no need to hate on one of his talents.

  26. Boss on December 4th, 2011 3:21 pm

@Royal Swagness, man someone should just ban this mofo on KHH.
